Courage is the most important of all the virtues, because without courage you can't practice any other virtues consistently. You can't be consistently kind or fair or humane or generous, not without courage, because if you don't have it, sooner or later you will stop and say, "The threat is too much. The difficulty is ...too high. The challenge is too great. ~ Maya Angelou

Community Update # 2

Subject: Eanes Community Update #2

Dear Eanes friends:

This is the follow-up I promised earlier.

My next questions:

o    Why--after two years in our community and our school district--hasn't our superintendent attempted the certification examination yet?

o    Why does Mrs. Wellman's State Board for Educator Certification page bear the notation, "No tests attempted?"

o    Does this reflect the high standards of accountability and commitment to excellence that we attempt to exercise in other areas of our school district?

o    If we start giving our superintendent a pass for not getting around to taking and/or passing the required state certification test, where do we draw the line elsewhere?

Most important:  Is this the kind of example we want to set for our children?  Would we be happy with our teachers if they told our sons and daughters, "If you don't get around to taking your final exam, it's okay and we'll let you slide by?"

Wishing all the best for our children, our parents, our teachers and our taxpayers,

Susan Bushart
