October 8, 2008

  The wait is over.

45 days and two requests later, the Eanes ISD salary and stipend information for 08-09 is finally available.

Or is it?  You decide.

When KeepEanesInformed first requested this information on August 25, 2008, Eanes ISD responded by claiming "NO RESPONSIVE DOCUMENTS."    Really?

Well, that seemed rather unbelievable ... after all, the school year had begun and salary information was surely available.  With a little help from local law enforcement (sometimes a telephone call will do wonders) the district finally gave it up:

September 25, 2008 update:

KeepEanesInformed requested the salary and stipend information today.  We began requesting the 08-09 information in August and to date, Eanes ISD maintains that responsive information does not exist.

Please check back ... we will obtain and post this public information.

September 16, 2008 update:

To date, Eanes ISD has refused to produce the salary and stipend information requested by KeepEanesInformed in August 2008.   In fact, the district has asserted in writing that there are no responsive documents.

Please check back ... we will obtain and post this public information.

Original request here:  As a service to Eanes ISD employees and taxpayers,

KeepEanesInformed requested the  07-08 Eanes ISD salary and stipend information.

Eanes ISD Superintendent Nola Wellman's  Salary ...

The Westlake Picayune newspaper reported in February 2006, "Eanes school board members voted February 22 to extend through 2010 the employment contract of superintendent Nola Wellman.  Board members discussed the details of the contract extension during a closed session, referring only to a salary increase and benefit change during an open session later the same evening.  District administrators declined to reveal the current salary level for Wellman, who came to the district in January 2004 from the Cherry Creek School District in Colorado."

What Would Happen If ... ?

Is High School Football a Public Good?

So, who supports sports on the public dole? It's not just young athletes, their families, and fans; the school system is the biggest winner. When a new sport is added to a school's program, a new dependent constituency is created. Where lacrosse used to be the private responsibility of player and parent, it has become the public good funded by the community's tax dollar. The lacrosse bill is now split between parent and neighbor. And, the threat of withdrawal of the tax-funded, school-district-redistributed, funding source frightens the parents of athletes into action. They rally behind the schools for tax increases, no matter the reason, no matter the amount.

Most of us would never think of asking our neighbors to foot a personal bill. We accept responsibility for car and roof repairs as ours alone. In addition, we don't bang on the door across the street in order to demand a contribution towards our children's figure skating lessons, tae kwon do classes, etc. That which is consumed or used by our families is to be paid from our pockets — the definition of personal responsibility.
