Courage is the most important of all the virtues, because without courage you can't practice any other virtues consistently. You can't be consistently kind or fair or humane or generous, not without courage, because if you don't have it, sooner or later you will stop and say, "The threat is too much.     It's a simple question.

What is Eanes ISD Board President Jim Strickland hiding?

In answer to Jim Strickland's question "Why", because:

1. Class sizes are rising through attrition layoffs of teachers

2. Academic programs are being cut or threatened.

3. School booster clubs are being asked to provide fundamental academic materials (i.e. workbooks for elementary school student, sound systems in the classroom, playground equipment).

4. Parents are being asked to provide fundamental academic materials (i.e. latex gloves for AP Biology at WHS).

5. Taxpayers are facing tax increases.

6. Parents and community are constantly bombarded with fundraising requests.

7. Taxpayers fund the school district's operations and we have the right to know.

Jim,

Since Nola became superintendent in January 2004, how many positions have been added to the Central Administration staff and at what cost?

Thank you,

Dianna

We had Rick Bentley, Gloria Thomas and then Carol Saxsenian.

Now we have Bill Bechtol, Betty Brace and the new Math and Language people.

Question - Eanes ISD administrative positions

May 12, 2008

Jim,

Last month, I posted the following question on www.keepeanesinformed.com

How many administrative positions have been added by Nola Wellman since 2004?

Some of us in the community are discussing the apparent rise of central administration positions and pay in Eanes ISD.  I have not requested public information regarding this issue.  However, I would appreciate a response from you.  Are the total expenditures (and positions) for central administration on the rise in Eanes ISD?

If Eanes ISD will provide a spreadsheet showing the central administration positions (as well as administrative positions at the campus level) and related expenditures by year for the last five years, I’ll be happy to post it for public review on KeepEanesInformed.

Thank you,

Dianna Pharr

How many administrative positions have been added by Nola Wellman since 2004?

Currently, the superintendent is advertising to hire the following positions in theEanes ISD Central Administration Building

1) Assistant Superintendent for Business Services in the Business Services Department

2) Director of Mathematics & Science in the Curriculum & Instruction Department, another newly-created administrative position,

3) District Facility Coordinator in the Business Services Department, another newly-created administrative position.

Remember Eanes ISD Rick Bentley and Jerry Molinoski?

A few years ago these men were employed by Eanes ISD as Assistant Superintendents of Curriculum and Human Resources, respectively.  Now employed by Yselta ISD, Rick ($134,144) and Jerry ($136,644) are two of the highest paid school administrators in El PasoCounty.

"Salaries for administrators have jumped sky-high in the last five years," said Frances Wever, the president of the El Paso Federation of Teachers and Support Personnel -- a frequent critic of administrative spending by the EPISD. "The district has added administrative positions instead of decreasing them," she added. "The administration needs to take a good look at all positions in the central office to see which ones could be consolidated."

Clint,

The agenda for today’s board meeting was not specific enough to understand the subject of the closed session portion of the meeting:

IV. CLOSED SESSION

A. Tex. Gov. Code 551.074 Personnel Matters

I. Deliberate and Discuss Central Office Administrative Positions

I appreciate your response and I’ll forward this on to Jim Strickland.

Thank you,

Dianna

Dianna – I don’t have this information, but I’m sure it will be discussed in upcoming budget meetings.  The topic of additional administrative positions and expenditures  would not be a topic for Closed Session.  I suggest that you send your questions to Jim Strickland since he, as president, typically responds for the board on such matters.

Thanks, Clint

May 10, 2008

Hello Clint,

I hope all is well with you.

Last month, I posted the following question on www.keepeanesinformed.com:  How many administrative positions have been added by Nola Wellman since 2004?

Some of us in the community are discussing the apparent rise of central administration positions and pay in Eanes ISD.  I have not requested public information regarding this issue.  However, I would appreciate a response from you.  Are the total expenditures (and positions) for central administration on the rise in Eanes ISD?

Further, I noticed that this is an issue to be discussed in closed session during the upcoming board meeting.  I recommend that the Eanes ISD board ask the Eanes ISD central administration to create a spreadsheet showing the central administration positions and expenditures by year for the last five years.

Thank you,

Dianna Pharr

In April 2008, KeepEanesInformed asked:

While teachers are cut and class sizes increase, why are we hiring so many new central administrative positions?  How many administrative positions have been added by Nola Wellman since 2004?

Many community members are discussing the apparent rise of central administration positions and pay in Eanes ISD.   Are the total expenditures (and positions) for central administration on the rise in Eanes ISD?

KeepEanesInformed has recommended that the Eanes ISD board ask the Eanes ISD central administration to create a spreadsheet showing the central administration positions and expenditures by year for the last five years and share that report with the public.

In May 2008, the Eanes ISD board posts the following closed session agenda item:

Tex. Gov. Code 551.074 Personnel Matters

Deliberate and Discuss Central Office Administrative Positions
